Grades and Averages:
Grades are given on the report card for each of the four quarters that make up the two semesters. Grades are also given for the exams which take place at the end of the first semester and at the end of the second semester. The semester grades are used to determine whether the student passed or failed the course for the semester and thus whether they receive the half credit.
The semester grade is determined using the two quarter grades in that semester and the exam grade. Each quarter grade is 40% of the grade and the exam grade is 20%. Another way to look at it is to multiply each quarter grade by two, add the exam grade and divide by 5.
In averaging the grades, we round up the average in the student’s favor. A student must receive a passing grade in both the first and second semester of a full credit subject or the semester grade of a half credit course.
To determine the GPA (grade point average) for the school year, the averages for both semesters are averaged together. Rank in class is then determined by this grade.

Honor Roll:
Honor Roll is based on the grades for each quarter individually while the GPA for the semester is based on the two quarters in the semester and any exam grades in each subject for the quarter.

Honors Courses and AP Courses:
Honor courses and Advanced Placement courses are given an additional .5 when determining the quality points for the subject. For example a grade of A would earn 4.5 in quality points; an A- would earn 4.17; a B+ would earn 3.84, etc.

KEES Grades:
In reporting grades to the Kentucky Education Assistance Authority for the KEES award, we follow the directives of KHEAA. Those directives are that the only courses that earn additional weight are Advanced Placement courses graded on a quality point scale of 5 for an A, 4 for a B, etc. Plus and minus differences are not to be considered.
