AP American History:
This course uses the thematic approach to refocus the students’ attention on the major aspects of American History from their inception to the present. The students will be able to judge and evaluate history with an overview of social, political, and economic perspective. Revisionist history will be evaluated as well as interpretive history with it emphasis on primary sources.
In addition to class lectures and notes students will have read: Profiles in Courage, Killer Angels, and Immigrant Voices. Other books added to the reading list include The Glorious Cause and Hail to the Chief.
Course Prerequisites:
Students will need a recommendation from the Social Studies Teacher of World Cultures. This will be judged on the success of the student in history as well as an interview with the A.P. teacher. The recommendation of the Advanced Placement Board is to limit the size of the class. The ultimate goal of the course is to have the student feel successful in the program as well as passing the A.P. Test satisfactorily to achieve college credit. The student should have a B or B+ in World History and commit to ½ hour reviews after school at least one day/week.
