AP Latin:
This is an Advanced Placement course on Vergil's AENEID. As such, it encompasses the material demanded for an AP Course: 1856 lines of Latin to be translated and remembered, and the remainder of the twelve books to be read in English.
Through the translation and with additional supplemental materials we will try to gain an appreciation of the end of the Roman Republic and its transition into the Roman Empire. We will be studying the precarious events that surrounded Augustus’ rise to power and the Roman Empire.
Classwork will include translation, discussion, and analysis of poetic themes.
Course Prerequisites:
- An A- average in Latin III
- A full understanding of Latin syntax
- A commitment to understanding Latin poetry
- A commitment to understanding the social, political and economic climate of Rome prior to/during the reign of Augustus and how this relates to the Aeneid
