Yearbook/Journalism:
Overall, this course will focus on creativity, technical writing, communication, cooperative skills, and problem-solving skills. Specifically, in regard to journalism, the journalistic writing process will be taught and emphasized including gathering, writing, editing, publishing, and distributing information. Research skills will be refined, combining technology and library skills. In addition, specific aspects of journalism such as ethics in journalism will be studied.
Finally, effective communication skills will be developed. In regard to the yearbook, creativity, proofing, decision-making, and problem-solving will be emphasized. Each student will be responsible for particular aspects in producing both the yearbook and the newspaper. These responsibilities will range from writing articles and editing, photography, creating layouts, publishing, computer technology, sales and accounting, and advertising.
