AP English:
AP English should produce proficient writers, avid readers, and critical thinkers. The students are exposed to a great amount of poetry and prose from British and world literature. In addition to becoming proficient in literary criticism, the students will practice the objective questions or the timed writings from past AP exams each week and will thus know if they are successful candidates for the AP exam in May. National standards recommend that AP courses have no more than 15-18 students.
Course Prerequisites:
Students who have a PSAT score of 45 or higher in Critical Reading and Writing and maintained an average of B or higher in English III.
- To do literary criticism
- To write with control
- To work independently and with motivation
- To contribute to class discussion.
- Fill out an AP application and return it to the AP English teacher by the due date.
Placement in Honors English is not necessarily a prerequisite to AP English. However, it helps better prepare students for the AP exam by exposing them to more literature, literary criticism, and the types of questions found on the AP exam.
