Community service hours must be completed on the student’s time and not during the school day.
Community service hours will not be accepted where there is an opportunity to earn money or payment for services; work must be done for nonprofit groups such as schools, places of worship, charitable organizations, or local agencies.
Only the Community Service Coordinator and Community Service Committee may grant approval for community service activities.
Parents may not sign their son or daughter’s verification form even if he or she supervised the activity. Another supervising adult must sign the form.
Students must complete and turn in documentation of all required community service hours no later than May 1 of each year.
Verification forms must be turned in during the year in which the work was performed.
We recommend that students keep copiesof their verification forms for their own records, as these may be very helpful in completing applications for scholarships, colleges, and resumes for employment. Sincere and thoughtful responses to the reflection questions may prove very valuable in essays.
