ANNOUNCEMENTS: Friday, May 18, 2012 Dear Parents, It is our privilege and our joy to share in the responsibility of helping to educate your students and to prepare them for life outside of the classroom. To be able to inspire and to be inspired, to teach and to learn, to challenge and to be challenged, to question and to answer is a daunting responsibility that we feel called and blessed to do. We are most especially blessed that we have such wonderful parents who share the sentiments of Albert Einstein who said, “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” Thank you for your support and understanding of the power of words. Through literature we are able to delve into timeless, essential questions through characters such as Huck Finn and Victor Frankenstein that allow students the time to think and to learn vicarious moral and ethical lessons. We are grateful for your support and for reinforcing what we do in the classroom. We know how important it is to work cooperatively in order to prepare these impressive young adults for life after Villa. Without your encouragement and support as well as your commitment to a Benedictine education, we would not be effective. Thank you for your sacrifice and dedication to your child’s education and future. Like Everett Koop, M.D., we know there is “no greater responsibility, no greater privilege, than the raising of the next generation.” It is our honor to be a part of this and thank you for entrusting your child’s education with us. God bless you and your family, Sr. Mary Carol Henggeler, CDP, Mrs. Jodie Meyn, Mr. Steve Oldfield, Mrs. Pam Fitzpatrick _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dear Parents, At this time of year we COUNT the many gifts we have received thanks to your generosity throughout the school year. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Thursday, May 17, 2012 Dear Parents, We are in the business of forming minds and preparing students for college and life beyond here at Villa Madonna Academy. Take some time and think about the progress that your student has made over the course of the year. Rome was not built in a day, and neither is the education of your child. Every day is a growing adventure, and we in the social studies department have loved every minute of it. We have the privilege of teaching some of the brightest and most inquisitive young minds. We get to share our love of history and society on a daily basis. Yes, this is the best job in the world. That is thanks in no small part to you, the parents. As a parent of soon –to- be two school- aged children, I truly appreciate the financial sacrifice that you make. Among the many colloquialisms left by my grandfather, “you get what you pay for.” And nowhere else can you get an education like Villa. Where else can your students go to war, make peace, and dominate a college thesis all within the safe confines of a Benedictine convent? Thank you for your support, kindness, and partnership in the future. Sincerely, Mr. Joe Cordonnier and Mr. Bob Henson, VMA Social Studies Department Dear Parents, Thank you so much for entrusting your children to the teachers of Villa Madonna every day. It’s an honor to be able to work with your great children. Whether we are broadening our knowledge about the three elements of health, playing ultimate Frisbee, studying for exams, or playing pinball on the computer in the library, I am reminded everyday how lucky I am to be a teacher at such a great school and have the opportunity to work with such great kids. Thanks for making this year such a tremendous year and have a great and restful summer. Sincerely, Rob Starkey, VMA Health/PE Department Dear Parents, Thank you, so very much, for the privilege of working with your “most prized possession” during their formative adolescent years. What an amazing time it is from late childhood to young adulthood! It is a period of tremendous growth for the students and the parents. You have provided the foundation, the roots, and entrusted us with the responsibility of continuing the growth of those roots and assisting with the creating the “wings” they will need to continue growing. Working cooperatively in this endeavor is such a wonderful thing. We thank you, most sincerely, for your trust in us and the privilege of being your assistants. Sincerely, Mrs. Vikki Rose, Mr. Jason Voight and Ms. Carole Lonneman It has been said that the man who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones. That, perhaps, is our thought as we study for exams. We study some each night, and we prepare any questions we may have for our teachers. We recognize that we are able to work each day to organize our notes, to participate in study groups, and to ultimately take responsibility for being prepared for our exams, for being prepared to demonstrate what we have learned and how we use this knowledge. These are the small stones, if you will, that help us be successful with our exams. In the spirit of St. Benedict, we recognize our value of Scholarship and we strive to do our personal best. Good luck to junior Deuce Gibson who is playing today in the State tennis tournament. Good luck to our track team who is running in the State track meet today. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Tuesday, May 15, 2012 Dear Parents, On behalf of Mr. Jefferson and myself, I would like to thank you for entrusting your children to us at VMA. Chesterton said that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder. We should be two of the most “wonder-struck” teachers in the tri-state. It is truly a joy to come to school every day to instruct your children. They never cease to teach us . . . about faith, service, and love of others. The year has been a wonderful one. May all enjoy a restful summer. Gratefully, Eileen O’Connell and Quinton Jefferson Emerson reminded us that this time, like all times, is a very good one, if we but know what to do with it. As we approach the end of our school year, we pray that we know what to do with these days. Study for exams? Allow time to pray? Think about our friendships and the kind of friend we are to others? Think about Villa and what being here means to us? Say thank you to our parents and teachers? Time is fleeting – make the most of your day. Blessings to our seniors who prepare for graduation.
