Diocesan Competition Winners

Sydney O'Connor Places 7th at STATE Governor's Cup Competition!

Sydney O'Connor placed 7th in the state in Language Arts in the middle school Governor's Cup competition held in Louisville this weekend. Sydney was honored with a trophy, a medal and she shook hands with the governor.

Destination Imagination

Two VMA teams competed in the Kentucky State Destination Imagination competition this weekend. The fifth grade team placed first in the elementary division. Team members include: Will Broomhead, Adam Fortner, Patrick Stebbins, Regan Collins, Kathryn Zalla, Lea McIntosh and Emily Egbers. The seventh grade team placed first in the middle school division. Team members include: David Blincoe, Thomas Schutzman, Chris Nutini and Connor Collins. Both teams will now compete in the Global Finals in May in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Kentucky United Nations Assembly

Every year, students who are passionate about world politics prepare themselves for a three-day state wide mock United Nations assembly. They choose what country they want to represent (Russia this year), and learn everything they can about that country. This year several of our students involved in KUNA along with Ms. Mitchell and Mr. Tilley have worked to prepare themselves for a mock United Nations meeting. Over 900 students attended the statewide convention, each delegation representing a different country in order to propose answers to certain problems the world faces.  At the event, Catherine Martini was recognized with an Outstanding Delegate Award.

Student of the Month

It is an honor to announce the Student of the Month for Peace and Hospitality, Theo Maris. Theo has been attending VMA since the first grade and is currently in the 7th grade. Theo lives with his mother, father, grandmother, and his brother, Peter. Theo’s namesake St. Theodore on whose feast day Theo was born. Extracurricular activities for Theo include playing soccer and basketball. He enjoys playing Xbox and taking care of his dog, Ginger. Theo also visits shut-ins once a month with his father and brother to deliver food. Theo was nominated Student of the Month for Peace and Hospitality by his classmates in 7E. Other students nominated by their classmates include Sophia Chauvin, Emily Egbers, Lauren Minella, Christ Nutini and Kathryn Zalla.
