First Grade Math presents topics fundamental to mathematical literacy and mathematical power for primary level students. An integral part of the learning process is the review of earlier concepts and procedures in which students use previously learned skills to develop proficiency with more advanced concepts. Problem solving, mathematical communication, and mathematical reasoning extend students’ learning.

The First Grade Reading Curriculum implements the national reading standards within the context of Kentucky and Diocesan reading criteria. The basis for this curriculum is vocabulary, word attack, comprehension, literary concepts, literary appreciation, and oral communication.

First Grade  Religion concentrates on preparation and participation in mass, learning prayers, learning the Benedictine values, learning about the Holy Trinity, and the life of Jesus. It also includes a brief introduction to the sacraments and an explanation of Catholic holy days. The lessons concentrate on being a good Christian by being a follower of Jesus.

The First Grade Science Curriculum implements the national science standards within the context of Kentucky and Diocesan Science criteria. The processes of inquiry are continuously reinforced, while the content focuses on life, physical, and earth sciences. Our program offers hands-on experiences, which increase vocabulary and concept development. The students are able to relate science to their own lives, applying this knowledge to unfamiliar situations. 

The First grade Social Studies incorporates the themes of our world, our neighborhood, our country, the seven continents and directionality into an ongoing thematic unit. The program begins with the study of our environment and each of the seven continents. Along the way we incorporate important people and events in history.

The First Grade Writing Curriculum implements the national writing standards within the context of Kentucky and Diocesan Reading criteria. The basis for this curriculum is writing mechanics, the writing process, and various types of writing.
