The Middle School Science course implements the national science standers within the context of Kentucky and Diocesan science criteria. The process of inquiry is continuously reinforced, while the content focuses on life science, physical science, and earth science. The program provides hands- on experiences using the scientific method, which increase concept development. Students are able to relate science to their own lives, and apply this knowledge to unfamiliar situations.

The Sixth Grade Language Arts curriculum is taught in a workshop environment and includes choice independent reading, conferences, literature discussion groups, author study, and mini lessons which include making connections to reading, authors’ craft, vocabulary, reading for meaning, and effective reading discussion. Students choose all reading independently, with the aid of the teacher, or collaborate with literature groups based on interest. Communication between the teacher and the student is vital to the curriculum. Each student corresponds with the teacher through reading journals and conferences to assure they’re reading age and ability level appropriate material.   Students are introduced to a variety of different genres through their independent reading and teacher read-aloud.

Sixth grade Social Studies includes a cultural world overview which focuses on the following periods: Pre-history, Ancient Egypt, Fertile Crescent, Ancient India, Ancient China, Ancient Greece, and Ancient Rome. This incorporates interpretation of maps, charts, graphs, and timelines. It is an integrated curriculum that combines religion, language arts, math, and science. The curriculum provides opportunities for student choice, independent research, the use of technology, and presentation.   It challenges students to analyze the similarities and differences between the world cultures, to look for patterns among their people, religions, their influence on other cultures, and the impact they have had on today’s world.
