 Grade 8

Welcome to eighth grade religion.  Our curriculum focuses on the story of our Church.  In fact the title of our textbook is Blest Are We—The Story of Our Church. This year we will spend some time familiarizing students with the new norms for the Mass. We will also do our trivia facts each day and have a ten question multiple choice quiz each Monday.  We will have a chapter test about every six to eight class days, and we attend Mass on most Fridays.

Service Hour Forms are due to religion teachers on May 11.  Students may turn them in anytime before or on May 11, but they will not be accepted after May 11.

Eighth grade is extremely busy at school.  Right now they are focusing on their play.  In our few remaining religion classes we will learn about the Reformation and the Counter-Reformation in the 16th century.  We will learn about St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross.

Eighth grade is the year during which Catholic young men and  women are traditionally confirmed in this diocese.  Confirmation and the preparation for it are done in the parishes.  We cannot do it here at school.  It would be impractical for us try to train our students because Confirmation occurs throughout the year, some as early as October or November and some not until May.  I urge you to contact your parish as soon as possible since the program at your parish might begin soon.
