Dear Parents,

We have been practicing for our second grade Mass here at school on May 8th.The songs are beautiful Please plan to attend. Students should wear the clothes they wore for their First Communion. Our classmates should wear dress clothes. Girls should wear a white or pastel colored dress. Boys should wear dress clothes. All students will have their picture taken whether they choose to purchase pictures or not.

There will be a lovely reception afterwards in the school cafeteria hosted by the 3rd grade parents.

We have been experiencing problems with our internet system. Several times I have attempted to email someone only to have it returned. Please understand this. If you should not receive an answer from me please call and leave a voice message. I will then get back with you as soon as I can. Please understand that it will not be during the school day. If you have a message that you need to get to me or your child please call the office and leave the message with Judy or Julie in the office. They will make sure your message gets delivered. This problem has been an on again off again problem so I never know when the system is working. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Please make sure that you read the web pages for all the teachers that your child has. The Spanish web page is underneath mine. Please check our Mrs. Ridley's, gym, art, and music. Information is found on all the pages.

Please help your children with their homework by having them read directions to you. If they come to you and ask what to do, have them re-read the directions. Then ask them what is it asking you to do? We are working on this at school. The students are not reading directions and stopping to think. Please reinforce this at home.

Please sign up to be a mystery reader.  I need some more volunteers!!! It is a fun experience for everyone involved. Please try to schedule a time. It is a great way to be involved with your child's learning.  If you can't make it on a Friday try to let us know when you might be available. Please understand we schedule through out the year. I usually schedule a month to a month and a half ahead. If you haven't been scheduled yet please just be patient. If you don't have a book Mrs. Ridley or I can always find a book. If you have any questions please email me at .

Mystery Reader is supposed to be a mystery. A mystery has clues and then the students guess the clues. The fun for the students is to guess who may be coming in.  Please keep this a mystery. Please go to the office and they will notify us that you are here. This allows us to get the students together without them seeing you. Thank you for your cooperation.

Language Arts: We will be reading several seasonal books. Students will be reading different books and answering questions in class. Students have read several stories and should have their reading logs completed for the stories.

Spelling: Spelling words for week 33 are words where the final consonant is doubled. Spelling words can also be found at www.spellingcity.com have your child click on student, and then look up teacher's name. The list is under Laura Haskamp. Check out this site for fun games and review. Remember sentences should be 7-8 words long. Please have students write on primary paper.  Students should write the sentences themselves. Sentences are corrected for capitalization, correct spelling of the spelling word and correct ending punctuation

Math:  We are working on fractions.

Science: Students are finishing up there study on dinosaurs.

Handwriting:  We have learned all the cursive letters and are practicing now.

Religion: A letter went home about our special mass here at the Monastery on May 8th. Please try to attend. It is a very community building experience.

Please check the Website of the special teachers for updates. Specials include Foreign Language, Art, Music, Library, computer lab, and gym.

Remember gym clothes and shoes  for Monday. Several students are forgetting their gym clothes. Please note that a students gym grade may be lowered if they are not prepared for class.

You may place book orders on line. I have made them available to you. To order on line just go to the scholastic web site www.scholastic.com/parentordering  Your should now be able to set up your own user name. Use GL9LB to reach our class.

Other: Students have enrichment on Friday afternoons. Enrichment is where students are divided into multi-age groups and go to Library, Music, Art, P.E.and drama. The special teachers have developed enrichment activities for the students. The students spend four weeks with that special and then rotate to a new enrichment group. Ask your child which activity or group they attend. We will begin a new rotation this coming Friday.
