The Blue Lightning volleyball is sputtering in a whirlwind! The team has the potential to play at a high level but can't find the consistency to get over the "hump".  This week both the J.V. and Varsity teams lost a conference match to Beechwood. The Varsity team battled the 5th. ranked Beechwood Tigers behind Lindsey Salchli's 5 kills and Katie Kemper's outstanding defense.

Thursday's loss to the Dixie Colonels was a heartbreaker.  Villa got out to a slow start with little intensity, losing 25-12.  However they rekindled the fire and took the second game 25-15.  In the third game it looked as though the Blue Lightning were going to be victorious, but the Colonels put together a string of kills and aces and came from behind and won 25-23.  Villa had season high performances by Junior Lindsey Salchli (17 assists), Senior Ashley Farmer (9 kills and 7 assists), Senior Stacey Hirt (7 kills) and Sophomore Ria Keegan (5 kills). Ria was playing in place of Allison Due who was out due to illness.

The J.V. team has shown signs of greatness with big wins over Ludlow and Bellevue. Meghan Moehlman, Ria Keegan and Tori Duncan have been solid offensively. While Amy Kreutzer and Holly Drees have dished out the assists from the setters position. The J.V. have only lost three games overall including one in the conference.
Villa plays Harrison Co. and Calvary Christian at home next Monday and Tuesday.
