Boys Soccer District Semi-Finals: Scott- 2 – Villa Madonna 1

At first, the VMA district semi-final loss is heartbreaking, but it was really a celebration of how hard our team has worked and grown during the season. Every player on the team contributed to an effort that matched one of Northern Kentucky’s best teams. The 14-4-2 Eagles got everything they could handle from Coach Albrinck’s team. The Blue Lightning scored first on a bending direct kick by Karl Weickgenannt that was finished off by Thomas Steinkoenig. Solid defense and great goalkeeping kept VMA in front until the last minute of the first half when a scrum in front of our net led to a short header goal to tie the game.

Congratulations to the coaching staff for outstanding game planning and leadership all season. Villa can boast three players among the leaders in Northern Kentucky scoring: Kenny Kurzendoerfer, Marius Van Melle, and Karl Weickgenannt. Andy Poos’ outstanding play in goal kept fans on their feet and hands clapping all season. Every Blue Lightning player became more skillful and determined as the season developed. The fans couldn’t ask for more from a team; the memories will be vibrant and positive. Thanks to our players, coaches, fans and fantastic VMA parents!

In the second half Scott brought their considerable talent to our defensive zone with waves of attacking play, but our team continued to play stiff defense until the 26th minute. Scott made a quick countering rush and found the only opening possible to gain the final margin.
