Dear Villa Alumni,

Villa’s halls are bustling with students who have returned from their summer break to begin the 2012-2013 school year.  It is always amazing how much their energy affects all of us who have been working quietly throughout the summer here at VMA; it is definitely good to have them back.

There have been two staffing changes that will affect students and alumni alike.  We have a new President, Ms. Anne. M. Maxfield ’79, who started at Villa on July 1, 2012.  Anne’s professionalism and enthusiasm have already had a great influence on our faculty and staff, and we are all excited about Anne leading Villa into the next phase of its history.  Anne, in turn, has hired a new Chief Advancement Officer, Mr. Dennis (Denny) Sketch.  Denny brings both business and fundraising experience to his new role.  His work experience will certainly be an asset as he develops relationships, cultivates major gift donors and increases funding to Villa.

We hosted two fun alumni events at Villa this spring and summer.  First we had our Annual Alumni Luncheon on May 20, 2012, where we honored the classes of 1962 and 1987 who celebrated their 50th and 25th reunions in 2012.  We also had a very special guest at this year’s luncheon; Sr. Teresa Wolking, OSB ’37 was on hand to celebrate her 75th year since graduating from Villa.  In addition, we had the distinct pleasure of inducting the Class of 2012 into the VMA Alumni Association.  Second, on July 21, 2012 some energetic alumni participated in our annual Alumni Soccer Game.  The weather was much cooler than last year and those who participated seemed to have a lot of fun.  (Please see the “Events” tab for pictures of both the Alumni Luncheon and the Alumni Soccer Game).

We look forward to our third annual Alumni Homecoming, which will take place on Friday, January 4, 2013, when the Villa Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team takes on the Ludlow Panthers.  We also plan to host another alumni basketball game/tournament during the Christmas holidays.  Stay tuned for details as they develop.  We hope to see many of our alumni at these fun events at Villa.

Please check us out on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.  And always remember we love it when you share your news and pictures with us!  I hope it’s a great fall for all VMA alumni.

Sincerely,

Monica Wehrman Lonnemann ‘83
