Villa Madonna Academy alumna, Sue Hoppenjans Thelen ’55, passed away in 1996 after battling a long illness. Her husband, George Thelen, followed through with Sue’s desire to establish a scholarship at Villa assisting students having financial difficulties with their tuition payments. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a VMA high school student.

Award Criteria:

- Financial need

- VMA High School student - May be an incoming freshman

- Minimum GPA of 3.0

- Displays positive personal characteristics

Application Requirements:    Application must be submitted by April 30 of each year and include:

- A Villa Madonna Academy Application Form

- A Villa Madonna Academy Financial Need Form

- A letter written by the student and a letter written by an adult explaining why the student should receive the scholarship addressing the criteria listed above

- A recommendation letter from the student’s teacher
