Ash Wednesday Calls us to Turn Away from Sin and Be Faithful to the Gospel
VILLA RAMA is this Saturday! Just a few days until you can bid on the annual “Play Hookey with the Principal” event! And….a part of the evening will be devoted to a “special project” underway at Villa – just another way we are moving forward!
We begin Villa Week with Good News:
Congratulations to Evan Tingley who placed 4th in the Regional Governor’s Cup Tournament this past weekend. Evan will be moving on to the State Tournament in March.
Thank you to all of the students who participated in Governor’s Cup this year – it was a great year and we have much of which to be proud. Also, thank you to all of the parents for their time and support. We could not have done it without you.
ALL: Thank you to Fr. Niby and Fr. Hellman for celebrating our Ash Wednesday Mass and the distribution of Ashes.
ALL: VIRTUS: The February Virtus bulletin has been published and needs to be completed by March 6th. Please be sure to complete the bulletin before the deadline to avoid suspension. Thank you to all our volunteers!
ALL: Looking for a way to organize gift cards, coupons and business cards in your purse or car? The SCRIP office has a beautiful and functional SCRIP wallet for sale for only $5.00. Order yours through SCRIP OR stop by the main office and take a look. Ms. Julie and Ms. Judy currently have them to sell during school hours.
ALL: Congratulations to our February Thunder and Lightning winners: Dennis and Roberta Foster (former VMA parents) and Rachal Huey Fitzgerald (Alumna Class of 1975). There are still 6 chances to win! Contact Karen Paxton at
if you need tickets.
ALL: Just a reminder that should we have severe weather school delays, cancellations or early dismissals will be communicated by means of radio/TV, Community Safe phone message system, and Villa’s website.
ALL: Several people have commented on drivers who drive fast around the school property and who enter the parking lot going in the wrong direction. Please continue to use caution and slow speeds when driving around the school. The speed limit on the drive into and around the school is 15 MPH. Also note that the there is a one way direction in the faculty parking lot. Cars must enter into the lot at the entrance closest to the road and exit from the exit closest to the lake. Please use caution when pulling out of the parking spots as there are a lot of pedestrians in the lot in the morning and in the afternoon. Also, please remember that cars should not line up before 2:20 p.m. for dismissal so that the main road is accessible for emergency vehicles. If you happen to arrive on campus before 2:20 p.m. you must pull into a parking spot until it is time to line up so that you are not blocking the main drive or any of our parking lots. Thank you for your cooperation in following these procedures.
ALL: Cinderella’s Closet: Thank you to all who donated prom dresses, black shoes and jewelry to the project. The VMA Environmental Club will deliver the items collected. Again, thank you.
ALL: We are excited to announce that Dr. Glenn Rice will be joining us as Head Varsity Girls’ Soccer Coach for 2012-13. Coach Rice brings with him a wealth of soccer knowledge and a unique familiarity with the Villa community. Please join us in welcoming Coach Rice as we look forward to a successful season this fall.”
E.S.: Kentucky students in grades K-6 have the opportunity to win a $1,500 college savings account by completing the Dream Out Loud Challenge. Students may submit drawings, poem/essay or a video by March 16, 2012. Please visit http://kysaves.com/news/dream.shtml for more information.
E.S.: Students, the School Supply Cart is open for business. Currently, it's open for business on Wednesday mornings from 7:30 am to about 8:10 am. It's in the same location, just outside of the cafeteria. Remember to bring your money and stop by to shop after drop off and before you go to class. We have all of the old favorites like mechanical pencils, pencil leads, pencil sharpeners, highlighters, crayons and much more. There are lots of new, fun erasers and we found some of those great cell phone erasers which are "back by popular demand"! We also have some new puppy and kitten book covers to protect your text books. So remember, the cart is still open for business on Wednesdays; just in the morning before school. Remember to bring your money and stock up on all your supplies!
E.S.: Please remember that students are not permitted in the school building once school has let out unless supervised by an adult. If a student is not picked up at dismissal, they are asked to go to aftercare because this is the only way we can monitor students. Thanks for your understanding.

H.S.: Summer Programs: Information on summer programs for high school students are beginning to come in. There is a great program for students interested in accounting that is offered free. Base Camp will be held at Bellarmine University in Louisville from June 10-14. This five-day campus residence program will introduce students to the accounting profession through interactive workshops and case studies. Campers will also visit and tour business in the area. Tuition, room and board, meals, books, handout materials, tours and activities are all provided for a non-refundable application fee of just $35. This is provided by the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants. Applications are accepted through February 29 or until they are filled. Come to the Guidance Office for an application and additional information.
H.S.: AP Students: All AP students who expressed an interest in taking an AP exam should have received the AP Bulletin for Students and Parents. It provides details about the exam, credit policy, test fee, security policy, etc. We will be asking for registration for the exams and the exam fees in early March and we will be placing an order for the exams in mid-M arch. I
H.S.: Seniors: Please note two additional scholarhips: One is from the Kentucky Association for College Admission Counseling that will award three scholarships of $500, $300 and $200. These are one-time awards. The other scholarship is provided by an orthodontist. This has specific score requirements. Come to the Guidance Office for the application for both of these scholarships.

H.S.: TMC Chancellor Scholarship: Thomas More College offers the Chancellor scholarship to one student from each of the diocesan high schools. One of the requirements to be considered is a 29 ACT composite score. They will not super score the composite score for this scholarship. Seniors with such an ACT composite score should consider this scholarship Check with Ms. Lonneman if you have any questions.
H.S.: JUNIORS AND THE ACT: We will be administering the ACT to all the juniors here at Villa on Tuesday, March 20. As part of the Diocesan participation in the ACT, all juniors will take the ACT here at Villa on March 20. They will be dismissed immediately after the ACT. As part of the Diocesan participation in the ACT, all juniors will take the ACT here at Villa on March 20. They will be dismissed immediately after the ACT. All the juniors in the diocesan high schools and in all the public high schools in the state will be taking the ACT on the same date. We will be registering the students here for the test, and the results can be sent to up to four colleges/universities for admission purposes. I suggest that students pick out some schools at this time to send their scores. They can be sent at a later date, but there is a charge that must be paid to ACT per college receiving the scores. Many junior parents paid the $34 for the ACT when they paid for the PSAT early in the year. If the check you wrote then was for $48 you paid for both tests. If it was for $14 then as a junior parent you now. owe the $34 ACT fee. If you aren’t sure you can check with the High School Guidance Office.
College/Guidance/Testing Information:

APEC Conference: We do have 11 students for the APEC Conference and we hope to have a university professor come sometime very soon. Our team should be working on increasing their knowledge about the country of Malaysia and its financial situation. Students who did not get the e-mail material Ms. Lonneman sent last week should come to the Guidance Office at before or after lunch for this.
Seniors: Seniors interested in UK should note that if you plan to become major in chemistry there is another scholarship open to you that will pay in-state tuition for one year. This is the Wilbur L. Price scholarship. The deadline is March 26.
