Governor’s Cup 2011 Middle School District 49 Results

 

 

 

In Middle School District Governor’s Cup competition for District 49, held January 22 at Beechwood, Villa Madonna placed 2nd over-all.  The Quick Recall team, Nicholas Boucher, Michael Chang, Calvin Espich, Catherine Martini, Sydney O’Connor, Jack Oldfield and Kylie Sharp, placed 2nd, earning the right to advance to Regionals.  In individual events, these Villa students also earned advancement: Arts and Humanities – Coleman Sweeney, 2nd; Language Arts – Sydney O’Connor, 1st and Jack Oldfield, 3rd; Math – Michael Chang, 2nd and Nicholas Boucher, 4th; Science – Michael Chang, 1st, Nick Weaver, 2nd, Nicholas Boucher, 3rd; Social Studies – Andrew Jones, 2nd and Benjamin Jones, 5th; Written Composition – Sydney O’Connor, 2nd, Asha Ramesh, 3rd, Nahal Pahlevani, 4thThe middle school academic team is coached by Ms. Joyce Kramer and Ms. Laura Haskamp.

 

Governor’s Cup 2011 High School District 33 Results

 

 

 

In High School District Governor’s Cup competition for District 33, held January 29 at Ludlow, Villa Madonna placed 3rd over-all.  The Quick Recall team, Hannah Knochelmann, Tyler Arnzen, Connor Louis, Andy Poos, Sarah Mustian, Jenna Sharp, Sarahmarie Specht-Bird, Matt Stapleton, and Kimberly Yocom, came in 2nd, earning the right to advance to Regionals.

In individual events, these Villa students also earned advancement: Arts and Humanities – Jenna Sharp 3rd and Kimberly Yocom 5th; Language Arts – Jenna Sharp, 3rd; Math – Connor Louis, 4th;  Science – Hannah Knochelmann, 2nd; Social Studies – Tyler Arnzen, 1st and Andy Poos, 3rd; Written Composition – Sarahmarie Specht-Bird, 2nd and Nicole Zatorski, 5th.  The high school academic team is coached by Ms. Catherine Kennedy and Ms. Shelly Rodenkirchen.

Coaches Versus Cancer

 It's Coaches Versus Cancer!

Villa Madonna athletes are helping fight cancer through education and basketball.  As part of their health classes, freshmen are researching the causes, effects, and treatments of various types of cancer. 

They will create educational displays with their information, and will exhibit their work at the January 28 and 29 home basketball games. Proceeds from the games on both days will be donated to the “Cure for Clay” foundation to provide assistance for Clay Eifert, principal of Holy Cross High School, who has been diagnosed with malignant melanoma.

Friday, January 28 - VMA versus Silver Grove: Men at 6, Women at 7:30

Saturday, January 29 -  VMA versus Louisville Collegiate: Men’s JV at 1, V at 2:30; Women at 4.

Wear Pink to the games!!

Math and Science Students Enjoy Class Labs

 High school physics and math students...

Villa Madonna Math students enjoyed a tasty PreCal lesson involving M & Ms.  Students used the M & Ms to model exponential growth and decay by gathering data, graphing, and writing equations of best fit to predict future values.  Robin Brundage, Connor Davern, Matt Stapleton, and Anna Neikirk work on their data.

 

 

 

 

Villa Madonna Physics students used static electricity and “Coulomb’s Law” to calculate the number of electrons transferred from their hair onto a pair of balloons in a recent lab activity. Katie Miller and Karl Weickgenannt measure the distance separating their two balloons.

Marines Thank Villa

 USMC Sgt. Mike Lynch...

USMC Sgt. Mike Lynch (4th from left) sent this thank you to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes at Villa Madonna Academy. The students sent packages of gifts and cards to the marines of the 5th Anglico unit, whose deployment in Afghanistan ended in December. Sgt. Lynch’s mom, Kathy Lynch, teaches 5th grade at Villa.
