H.S.: Teen Driving Program Coming Soon: Dare to Prepare, presented by AAA, a Pre-Permit Workshop for Parents and Teens. This program is for students who are 14-15 and will be getting their driver’s license. Parents and students are invited. The April 20 event will take place at 6:30 P.M.-8:00 P.M. in VMA theatre. This is an excellent program as we prepare our students to take on the privilege of driving.
H.S.: Please remember that each student must complete at least 20 hours of service each year. As you engage in service, remember to download a form from the website, have your supervisor sign it, write your reflection, and submit it to Mr. Jefferson. Mr. Jefferson keeps a spreadsheet listing the service all students have completed throughout the four years. This is especially helpful as we write letters of recommendation.
H.S.: The freshmen and sophomores will be attending a presentation by the Pro-Life Commission of the Diocese of Covington on March 24. Parents are invited to hear the presentation on March 23, 7:00 P.M., at the Drawbridge Inn in Ft. Mitchell. It is free and open to the public. National speaker Christina King will speak on Pure Freedom. Her “message of Chastity and Love is delivered in an affirming, age appropriate, guilt free manner which follows Catholic doctrine and teachings.”
H.S.: Best of luck to our students who will be participating in the Regional Foreign Language Festival on March 27, 2010 at NKU.
H.S.: We have crowned a new Pi Queen. Congrats to Megan Kanter our new Pi royalty who memorized 102 digits of Pi.
NEWS FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR
High School Junior Summer Program at Xavier University: Xavier is offering college courses this summer to qualified high school juniors at a terrific savings. The fee for a three-credit hour class would be $80 per credit hour or $240 instead of the regular per-credit-hour cost of $575 or $1725. The deadline for submitting the application is March 27. Students must have a B or better GPA and be on track to be graduated in 2011. For more information visit www.xavier.edu/summer.
Regional Youth Leadership: We gave all sophomores information about this program sponsored by the NK Leadership Foundation/NK Chamber of Commerce & Leadership Cincinnati Alumni Association. Students are chosen in their sophomore year for participation in the program during their junior year. The student(s) chosen will be absent from school 6-7 school days throughout the year, so students who apply should be able to commit to making up all they miss on their days at the program. Application for the program can be found at www.nkychamber,com. Students are to complete the application, print it, sign it and bring to school for Mrs. McQueen’s signature. The school must submit the applications by March 24.
Juniors & College Entrance Tests: We hope that all juniors will have taken either the ACT of SAT by this June. The ACT is given April 10 and June 12 (May 7) and the SAT is given May 1 (March 25) and June 5 (April 29). The date in parenthesis is the deadline. For the April ACT the late fee deadline is March 19. Please be sure to put in Villa’s code (180585) so that we will get a copy of the scores. Also, the fee for the test covers sending the scores to four colleges. You are advised to do that at the time of registering as there will be an additional charge per school after that. College admission offices will take the highest test score if a student has taken the test repeatedly. They wanted us to tell students that they are the office of “admission” not “refusal”.
You can register online at www.collegeboard.com for the SAT and www.act.org for the ACT. College Info Program here at Villa on March 31: Dan Bisig from College and Beyond will be at Villa on Wednesday, March 31, to repeat a program he gave here in the fall. We will be sending out his flyer to all parents, but we hope that parents of juniors, sophomores and even freshmen make plans to hear him and to interact with him and Villa’s counselor as well.
