Villa Madonna freshman Sarahmarie Specht-Bird has been named recipient of the National Gold Key Award as well as the American Voices Award in this year’s Scholastic Writing competition, thereby earning national recognition for her writing in three consecutive years . She will read her essay aloud at the regional Writing Awards ceremony at Northern Kentucky University on May 4, and has been invited to national Scholastic Awards events in New York this June. As a 7th grader and again as an 8th grader, Sarahmarie earned Scholastic’s national level Gold award for her short stories. She is the daughter of David Bird and Marla Specht of Villa Hills.
